Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The University of Auckland Business School is seeking to appoint someone into an Academic Language Support role, internally you will be referred to as a Professional Teaching Fellow - Business Communication and Academic Skills, to support the delivery of its portfolio of Professional Masters programmes. This role involves designing and delivering embedded business communication skills and academic literacies learning support to a diverse postgraduate student body.

The two main programmes that this role will support are the Master of Business Analytics and the Business Masters, through:

  • workshops, seminars and team teaching
  • 1:1 and small group sessions
  • feedback on written and oral assessments

Please note this is a full-time (40 hours/week) fixed-term opportunity until December 2023. The salary range is between $92,212- $121,332 depending on qualifications & experience.

The University of Auckland Business School has an unconditional commitment to quality teaching and research in topics that are forward-focused and relevant to the commercial world today. 

The Master of Business Analytics is a 15-month degree programme with a strong focus on programming languages, data analysis software, and advanced statistics for business professionals. Therefore, knowledge of statistical analysis and an ability to teach quantitative research report writing are particularly desirable. Some evening teaching may be required as many students are in part-time or full-time employment.

The Business Masters is a 15-18 month degree programme that allows students to specialise in management, accounting, international business, or marketing. The large majority of students on the Business Masters programme are international learners who have English as an additional language. The student body is currently split between onshore students in New Zealand and offshore students worldwide.

To enhance our team, we are especially keen to hear from applicants with:

  • experience and pedagogical knowledge of e-learning/hybrid delivery;
  • strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; and
  • knowledge of numeracy, statistical analysis and quantitative research report writing skills;
  • learning support experience with both international and domestic tertiary students

You may have a background in TESOL, Academic Literacy or as a Language Tutor and be looking for that next step. If you are committed to ensuring that your students have an extraordinary learning experience, informed by relevant research and enhanced by appropriate learning technologies, this role will appeal. You will be expected to assist in the development of programme and course curricula, conduct research-informed teaching and carry out administrative duties as required to enable the achievement of these goals.
