Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Our Technical Services Team at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences are looking for a reliable person to work as research support for staff and students in the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre. Experience in a biomedical research environment and in vivo techniques is essential. Experience in cell culture techniques would make you a strong candidate.
You will be responsible for contributing to the day-to-day operations within the Centre, providing support for researchers with the anti-cancer therapies being investigated.
Your key accountabilities include:
- Maintaining equipment, consumables and materials as required
- Assist researchers produce outputs of publishable quality
- Assist with interpretation of experimental outcomes
- Understand and comply with all containment requirements
- Manage purchasing of materials as a Designated Laboratory Person
- Ensure any equipment in your remit is well maintained by arranging repairs, maintenance and calibration as required to ensure optimal functionality
- Ensure all animals held in facilities are kept in conditions that exceed the requirements of the Animals Ethics Committee and other relevant welfare entities
- Maintain high levels of hygiene and compliance in all areas of responsibility.
- Assist academics to undertake specialist procedures, e.g. tissue collection, administration of drugs and/or specialised diets.
- Provide support, training and assistance to staff and students for in vivo/in vitro techniques
- Conduct animal studies as directed by researchers
This position is 12 months Fixed Term and is Fulltime (37.5 hours/week)
Remuneration: $58,501 - $65,000 negotiable on experience and qualifications

You will be working with four other Technical Services staff based within the ACSRC supporting about 80 staff and students as required.
