Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are looking for an individual who will effectively build the profile of the University of Auckland hosted National Science Challenge, A Better Start. You will be primarily responsible for the development and execution of engaging marketing communications and campaigns for multiple audiences across a range of platforms to create awareness of, and engagement with, the Challenge’s researchers, activities and outcomes.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage marketing strategies and communications to effectively build the profile of the National Science Challenge, A Better Start.
  • Relationship management and identification of appropriate media opportunities to promote the profile of the National Science Challenge, A Better Start.
  • Assist with preparing annual reports to funders including Impact Case Studies.
  • Create content, manage and coordinate the copywriting, editing and production  for all Challenge communications
  • Develop and manage digital and online content including website maintenance and social media presence.
  • Manage and further develop the communications for a diverse set of stakeholders, internal and external, including community groups, businesses and the research community.
  • Assist with the organization of events to promote the activities of the National Science Challenge, A Better Start
  • Manage the webinar series with key Challenge partners

These responsibilities include planning and managing communications strategies that include web content, digital communications and email marketing, as well as communications via traditional media and print campaigns.

The position is a permanent part-time 0.5 FTE (18.75 hours per week)
Remuneration: From $90,000 + pro rata, dependent on experience

The ideal candidate will bring well-developed interpersonal skills, extensive writing and journalism skills, a good understanding of all electronic communications mediums, computing skills, good organizational skills, plenty of enthusiasm and a collegial approach to their work. They will be experienced in stakeholder management and expert at working collaboratively.

This role will suit individuals with very strong copywriting skills, journalism expertise and commercial acumen combined with an entrepreneurial approach that demonstrates excellence.

It will attract individuals who have a high level of drive and those who are energized by the opportunity to be part of a unique mission-led national programme using research to address some of the biggest priorities for New Zealand.

Applicants will need to demonstrate a measure of achievement and success in their career path – particularly in the areas of journalism and communications.
