Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as Manager of Technical Development. As a Manager of Technical Development, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical growth and development of our plant and field teams in the West Region, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve business objectives. You will play a crucial role in driving team development, facilitating on-the-job training, implementing technical training programs, ensuring team resilience through succession planning and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional communication abilities, proven technical acumen from the field, plant, or similar roles.

Responsibilities

  1. Align learning experiences to existing competency maps for all technical roles.
  2. Develop and deploy learning experiences in conjunction with the technical learning team to drive technical competency growth and ensure technical competency assurance.
  3. Deliver comprehensive technical training programs in conjunction with the Plant Manager or Field Service Manager to enhance the skills and knowledge of plant and field staff, ensuring they are equipped to meet customer needs safely, promote a positive customer experience and repeat sales.
  4. Develop and implement on-the-job training opportunities to decrease time to competence for technical staff. Overall improve onboarding experience when it comes to training.
  5. Support all technical training programs such as StrongStart, Basic Services Course, Plant Manager training, etc.  
  6. Monitor, report, and steward technical training KPIs and metrics; serve on Root-Cause-Analysis teams when required and take proactive measures to address any gaps in competency.
  7. Work with stakeholders to review and recommend improvements to existing competency maps. 
  8. Serve as subject matter expert in the development of new competencies and competency maps, job task analysis, and training needs analysis. 
  9. Stay updated with industry best practices, technology advancements, and market trends to drive innovation and improve field operations ie: wastewater, PFAS, etc.
  10. Collaborate with Regional leadership to develop regional training/competency strategy and succession planning.
  11. Evaluate effectiveness of learning experiences in terms of modality, curricula, instructional materials, and instructor effectiveness.
  12. Conduct site and regional assessments of Competency Program implementation.
  13. Manage change initiatives involving technical training, assessment, and/or competency programs.
  14. Develop and execute all facets of change management plans including communications plans, resistance plans, and training plans.
  15. Support training aspect of new big contract start up.
  16. Collaborate closely with EHS regional managers to optimize training attendance.
     

Qualifications

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of field experience. 
  2. Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
  3. Strong leadership abilities with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  4. Ability to steer effective communications via a defined communication approach.  
  5. Ability to build relationships at all levels.
  6. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans and drive results.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  8. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  9. Motivated individual with proven self-starting capabilities to create innovative solutions.
  10. Proficient in using technology and software applications related to field operations.

Desired Characteristics

  1. Deep knowledge of multiple VWTS technologies and processes.
  2. Prior experience teaching or mentoring technical skills.
  3. Superior presentation skills.
  4. Strong collaboration and planning skills.
  5. Prior experience or ability to learn basic e-learning authorware.
