POSITION PURPOSE: The Industrial Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all technical and operational activities on assigned projects.
- Technical activities include planning, scheduling, and conducting assigned engineering work and monitoring work of Veolia tradesmen and external contractors for compliance to project specifications, accepted site construction practices, and company standards.
- Operational activities include liaising with Operations management with regards to equipment and utility availability including scheduled downtime, providing guidance to operations, and maintenance personnel, and ensuring labor & materials are available for project execution.
On all assigned projects, the incumbent is required to effectively communicate and coordinate between all disciplines and all other project participants and key stakeholders to achieve project KPIs. KPIs include completing projects safely, on schedule, within budget and with quality and integrity. The Project Coordinator reports to the Engineering Manager, who has ultimate responsibility for both the quality of Veolia’s deliverable and effective execution of project assignments.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understands and promotes the Company’s, the Division’s, and the Plant’s mission statement, values, and strategic goals.
- Proactively promotes through example, a safe work ethic, attitude, and workplace. Monitors workers compliance with all safety policies, standards, and procedures to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff, contractors and visitors as well as the Company’s, Client’s and Regulatory Agencies’ safe work objectives and requirements.
- Proactively models and maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers, management, staff of other company departments and client representatives. Models effective conflict resolution skills and effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
- Promotes a quality first work ethic and attitude to provide a product that is manufactured of the highest standard achievable.
- Operates company owned, leased or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment. Incumbent is required to perform safety sensitive duties and responsibilities.
- Prepares Project schedules and forecasts.
- Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates the technical, operational and management aspects of projects. Coordinates and verifies engineering deliverables are on target. Accountable for the successful completion of all assigned engineering projects.
- Continually monitors and verifies that all assigned personnel/sub contractors are coordinating their activities with other project participants, and that the requirements of the Contract are being satisfied. Resolves any project issues expediently and effectively.
- Maintains extensive regular contact with assigned project Clients to achieve project KPIs. Maintains open communications with all key stakeholders.
- Participates in Client/contractor meetings and resolves any Client/engineering and management project issues expediently and effectively.
- Expected to have sufficient technical knowledge and awareness of details to be able to recognize when technical problems are developing in the various disciplines, and to initiate appropriate corrective actions.
- Prepares weekly and monthly project status reports and change orders.
- Assists in the preparation of engineering project proposals
- Proposes, plans and executes Plant maintenance overhaul programs and capital upgrades to continually improve long- term viability of the facility
- Proposes, plans and executes projects to reduce long-term maintenance costs and improve efficiency to produce high quality products, outputs and deliverables to the client
- Develops strategies and implement improvements within the facility management systems (i.e. Veolia Asset Management System for the maintenance, upgrading and renewal of the facility.
- Identifies opportunities for equipment and system improvements and proposes supported changes and upgrades to the Engineering Manager
- Supervises, directs, and motivates staff, contractors, and consultants to deliver project on schedule and on budget
- Leads or directs root cause failure analysis.
- Prepares budgetary estimates and monitors costs as well as participates with other Managers in the development of Plant and management budgets
- Provides support to other departments and performs additional duties as required.
- Monitors project budget and tracks trends. Takes corrective action as necessary to achieve project completion on budget.
- Reviews and approves project Client invoices.
- Engages in fiscal planning.
- The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting in developing project budgets, and once they are approved, for effectively monitoring costs to achieve project completion within budget.
- The incumbent in this position has no direct responsibility for any employees; however is required to work collaboratively to provide guidance and coaching to all other employees assigned to work on projects.
- Decisions the Incumbent would make on their own in conjunction with the Engineering Manager.
- Technical issues regarding projects following input and recommendations from and dialogue with Maintenance/Project Manager.
- Standard engineering practices.
- Situations that would be reviewed with others include:
- Advises management of operational or policy issues unable to satisfactorily resolve or were resolved outside of Company practice.
- Consults with and/or defers to Engineering Manager regarding all unique or unusual circumstances and any requests outside of established practices, programs, and policies.
- CONTACTS (The type and frequency of meeting and/or associating with other people.)
Internal:
- Provides project status and issues to the Management Team.
- Collaborates/consults with other Departments such as Engineering, Operations, Mechanical Maintenance, and E&I Maintenance, as required for effective day-to- day project work as well as unusual circumstances outside of established practices and policies.
- Attends meetings as required , including regular meetings such as daily, weekly and Monthly
External:
- Participates in project discussions with the Client representative as required and makes formal presentations during scheduled meetings.
- Discusses project plans and proposals with Contractor & Vendor representatives in the formulation of costs and during the execution of contract works.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
- Project Management Diploma, Technical Certification or Engineering Degree, Mechanical discipline preferred.
- Preference for PMP or CAPM designation ⬥ Experience in related fields will also be considered in combination with demonstrated aptitude, and specific skills training.
- Minimum of three (5) years progressive experience in a related plant operations, maintenance, engineering and/or project manager role within an industrial process.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and Plant systems such as high and low voltage electrical distribution, instrumentation and controls, motors and drives, hydraulics, pneumatics,, HVAC, buildings and structures, and material handling systems.
- Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills to facilitate working effectively with wide range and number of people, including peers and manager, employees, and other departments, divisions, and management within all levels of the organization.
- Strong leadership and communication (both verbal and written) skills to facilitate and promote open discussions, and to effect pro-active management on a daily basis.
- Effective time management, decision-making, and planning and organizing skills.
- Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced environment with changing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.

- Intermediate level computer skills to operate Google Office Suite (especially Google Mail, Sheets, and Docs) and program-specific software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all personnel and sensitive matters.
- Ability to complete all conditions of employment including criminal record check, pre-employment medical, valid driver’s license, and negative alcohol and drug test, and background check.
