Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance/Electrical technician troubleshoots, repairs, maintains and replaces equipment parts with the primary focus of ensuring that the Dunder Treatment System (DTP) functions according to specification meeting the client’s demands and all regulatory responsibility.
JOB FUNCTION
- Performs a variety of skilled repairs and maintenance tasks on pumps, electrical and electronic controls and heating equipment
- Maintains the preventative maintenance programme for the DTP, Cooling system and the power generation system.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with sound safety practices and using appropriate safety devices and equipment consistent with company policies.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems with electrical and electronic controls.
- Read and interpret results as reported on test metres.
- Performs work that involve the use of blueprints, electronic schematic drawings, and manufacturers’ installation/repair instructions.
- Performs other jobs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Extensive knowledge of the working and repairs of pumps, electrical and heating equipment used in a wastewater treatment plant, cooling system and power generation system.
- Extensive knowledge of the plumbing and electrical trades as they apply to wastewater treatment operations.
- Knowledge of electronic controls
- Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention.
- Writing skills to complete required maintenance forms and records.
- Ability to read blueprints, electrical drawings and manufacture installation/repair instructions.
- Ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including the ability to interact effectively and courteously with public, co-workers, vendors and other departments.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Technology
- Five years of experience with troubleshooting and repair of pumps, valves, and related electrical equipment including electronic controls.
- Be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Be able to attend continuing education courses and workshops

WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be expected to work in outside weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to chemicals and toxic substances and unpleasant odors. The employee will work around moving mechanical parts and being exposed to wet humid conditions.
Physical Conditions
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, crawling and climbing of unusual heights.
Incumbents will be required to lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight.
