Job Description

The Maintenance Technician safety and efficiently assists trades people in the performance of their work in any way needed to complete the tasks quickly and efficiently.  The incumbent may also be assigned to work independently on tasks or on various pieces of equipment within their scope of skills and knowledge.  All work performed is to be in accordance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and permitting requirements while achieving target KPIs.  KPIs include safety, productivity, and quality of work performed.  Incumbent may be required to work rotating day shifts.  The Maintenance Technician is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities. 

This position operates within a COR, ISO 17025 certified, and OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 conforming plant environment and is expected to comply with all regulatory requirements.  The facility operates on a 24/7 basis.

Main Responsibilities: 

The duties of the Maintenance Technician/Apprentice Millwright are as follows, but not limited to:

  1. Understands and promotes the Company’s, the Division’s, the Plant’s, and the Department’s mission statement, values, and strategic goals.
  2. Proactively promotes through example a safe work ethic, attitude, and workplace.  Complies with all health and safety policies, standards, and procedures to achieve a safe work environment and safety for all staff and visitors as well as the Company’s, Client’s and Regulatory Agencies safe work objectives and requirements.
  3. Maintains effective working relationships and communications with peers, management, staff of other company departments, and client representatives.  Effectively resolves any conflicts in a timely manner to achieve positive and healthy working relationships and workplace environment.
  4. Promotes a quality first work ethic and attitude to provide a product that is manufactured of the highest standard achievable.
  5. Maintains confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  6. Understands, complies with, and is accountable for adherence to COR quality standards in all activities.
  7. Safely operates company owned, leased, managed, or rented vehicles and/or mobile equipment.  Incumbent is required to perform Safety Sensitive duties and responsibilities. 
  8. Manages assigned tasks/projects within scope of responsibility so all KPIs are achieved, including but not limited to safety, productivity, and product quality.  KPIs will be measured by:
    1. Safety
      1. Lost Time Accidents, Incidents, PPE Compliance, Permit Compliance
    2. Quality Control
      1. Re-work, Quality of work
    3. Work Order Hours
      1. Estimated Time vs Actual Time
    4. Productivity
      1. Total Work Hours vs Actual Work Hours
  9. Maintains plant machinery and equipment throughout the facility.
  10. Assigned and updates the IvaraProgram as required.
  11. Carries out regular PMs on the above mentioned equipment including cleaning.
  12. Works assigned shifts as scheduled.  May be required to work authorized overtime to maintain facility production.
  13. Supports other initiatives of the Plant to promote a healthy and positive work environment and enhance employee morale and engagement.
  14. Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • Formal Education Required:
    • High School Diploma.
    • Apprentice millwright
  • Applicable Experience Required:
    • Minimum of two (2) years’ related experience.
    • Experience repairing industrial equipment.
    • Experience with Ivara or a similar computerized maintenance management system will be considered an asset.
    • Previous experience in an industrial process plant environment is a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong customer service attitude and commitment to providing exceptional customer service and quality results.

  • Attentiveness to details and ability to manage a diverse workload within a fast-paced.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven organizational and creative-problem solving skills.
  • Basic level computer skills to operate MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Ability and willingness to work assigned shifts and overtime as scheduled.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to comply with all regulatory requirements and Company Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Ability to complete all conditions of employment including criminal record check, negative alcohol and drug test, current and clean Class 5 driver’s license, and pre-employment medical.

Work Environment: 

  1. Physical or mental demands and activities:
    1. Incumbent performs Safety Sensitive duties or responsibilities.
    2. Continually managing priorities to meet operational objectives
    3. Achieving expected performance standards while maintaining an efficient and safe working environment.
    4. High volume workload requiring both sound technical knowledge and ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  2. Challenging conditions normally associated with job (e.g. physical hazards, rotating shifts, shop conditions, and travel as an integral part of the duties performed, etc.).  It is assumed that all reasonable and legal Occupational Health & Safety practices are in place and are adhered to.  In addition, PPE is to be worn as per company standards and procedures.  
    1. Works directly in Plant; required to climb ladders, work at heights or in confined spaces, and be exposed to various industrial hazards such as but not limited to noise, fumes, and chemicals and hazardous waste. 
    2. Exposed to PCBs, Compressed/flammable gas, mobile equipment, moving equipment, rotating equipment and electrical hazards.
    3. Exposed to hot and cold working environments.
    4. Required to wear respirator and/or breathing apparatus while in designated areas of the plant and/or laboratory.
    5. Despite the relatively low risk of exposure to potential waste contaminants, participation in the SHTC employee health monitoring program is required.
    6. Periodically required to do heavy lifting and carrying.
  3. Work Hours:
    1. This position is eligible to participate in a Compressed Work Week Schedule, thereby working four, ten-hour days each week.  To ensure operational requirements and coverage is achieved at all times, incumbent may be requested to occasionally change/adapt their hours. 

    2. Options within the Compressed Work Week Guidelines are Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday and 6:00 am to 4:30 pm or 7:00 am to 5:30 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.  Position is based on a 40-hour work week.  With prior approval, incumbent has flexibility to adapt hours to meet business and personal needs.
