Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop tool for passive and active alignment, ensuring sub-micron precision and repeatability.
- Develop and optimize laser soldering processes, including parameter selection (e.g., power, pulse duration, and wavelength) and thermal management.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and vision systems into automated platforms for alignment and soldering applications.
- Create and validate fixtures and tooling for optical and mechanical component alignment.
- Lead the development of automated alignment processes, leveraging active feedback systems for real-time adjustments.
- Analyze and optimize laser-material interactions to ensure high-quality solder joints without component damage.
- Perform design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis (e.g., Six Sigma) to optimize process parameters.
- Design and implement control algorithms (e.g., PID, adaptive control) for precision motion and alignment systems.
- Program and maintain software for machine vision, motion control, and robotic systems.
- Develop scripts or applications for tool automation and data acquisition.
- Conduct functional testing of alignment and soldering systems to ensure reliability and accuracy.
- Use metrology tools (e.g., interferometers, profilometers, and vision systems) to measure alignment accuracy and solder quality.
- Perform thermal, mechanical, and optical testing to validate system performance.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to develop integrated mechatronic systems.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure scalability and reliability of processes.
- Interface with suppliers to evaluate and select components, including sensors, actuators, and laser systems.
- Implement process monitoring systems to ensure consistent quality during production.
- Drive innovations in alignment and soldering technologies by researching and applying the latest advancements in mechatronics, AI, and robotics.
- Identify and resolve issues related to process variability, system wear, or material incompatibilities.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including system designs, process workflows, and test results.
- Develop and update work instructions and training materials for technicians and operators.
- Present findings and progress updates to stakeholders and management.
- Plan and manage development projects, ensuring timely delivery of milestones.
- Develop project timelines, resource plans, and budgets.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for alignment or soldering-related failures.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field (required) or Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (preferred), with a focus on precision engineering, automation, or laser processing.
- 3+ years of experience in mechatronic systems design, laser soldering, and precision alignment, preferably in industries such as optoelectronics, semiconductors, or medical devices.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing automated alignment processes and laser soldering techniques.
- Hands-on experience with motion control systems, sensors, and precision tooling.
- Experience in working with cross-disciplinary teams and integrating hardware and software systems.
PREFERRED:
- Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) for managing complex engineering projects.
- Certification in robotics or machine vision systems.
- Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt or higher).
SKILLS:
- Expertise in designing and programming motion control systems (e.g., Aerotech, PI stages).
- Knowledge of piezo actuators, servo motors, and precision alignment tools.
- Experience with robotics for handling and automation.
- Proficient in laser systems (e.g., Trumpf, IPG Photonics) and understanding of laser-material interactions.
- Familiarity with metals and solders (e.g., Au-Sn, Pb-free solder) used in bonding processes.
- Proficiency in LabVIEW, MATLAB, or Python for automation and data acquisition.
- Experience with C++, C#, or similar languages for machine vision and control systems.
- Knowledge of vision processing tools like Cognex VisionPro or OpenCV.
- Experience with thermal and structural FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
- Proficiency in optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V) for alignment simulations.
- Familiarity with statistical tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab) for process optimization and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience in GR&R analysis and process validation techniques.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities for complex mechatronic systems.
- Ability to clearly present technical concepts and findings to stakeholders.
- Capable of mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in managing development timelines, budgets, and cross-functional projects.
