Job Description

The Safety Specialist will collaborate with the Safety Director daily creating strategy and policies related to the safety and well being of occupants and employees for the entire facility and grounds.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Will liaise with all departments to review and ensure safety related policies and procedures are in good standing and are being enforced
  • Ensures compliance with all code requirements by Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s) including OSHA, local Fire and Building Department officials, etc.
  • Will maintain proper records for all AHJ’s and meet with their representatives as needed to review records and policies
  • Will conduct Company Safety meetings as dictated by code
  • Will be expected to be highly visible with all staff on a daily basis, interacting with individuals observing safe work practices and correcting unsafe work or work areas to include issuance of Safety Violations and following up with corrective activities with department heads and employees as needed. This will require flexible work scheduling to permit interactions
  • Will conduct injury investigations.
        a. Review accident and injury reports to identify trends and common            hazards
        b. Review hazards and coordinate with: Employees, Workers’                        Compensation and Department Management.
        c. Perform follow-up site inspections to verify corrections of hazardous          conditions.
  • Will conduct Safety training per OSHA and other regulatory agency requirements.
        a. Coordinate training with Department Training Managers; train                  property trainers.
        b. Coordinate training with consultants/vendors
  • Oversee consultants performing safety services (e.g. hearing conservation, IAQ, etc.) during various days and shifts.
  • Review temporary and transient events (e.g. conventions, concerts, special events) for hazards, coordinate any corrections with management.
  • Investigate inquiries from public agency regulators and communicate to the Director of Safety.

Qualifications

  • The position requires a flexible work schedule to permit interactions with staff as needed in a 24/7 365 workplace
  • Minimum two years administrative / safety related experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office Outlook, Word and Excel is required
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Must have the ability to speak in front of large groups of people
  • Must possess outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be fluent in English
